Domestic Violence, Trauma, & Wellness Counseling
In October 2017, I plan on attending a 5-day training on Trauma Sensitive Yoga therapy, shown to significantly reduce symptoms of PTSD, and held by the Trauma Center & Justice Resource Institute at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts.
"Wellness" is defined as more than just the absence of disease. It involves one's goal to achieve one's optimal level of health and well-being. Wellness counseling integrates the mind, body, and spirit, and requires the conscious decisions and active engagement into healthy thinking, feeling, behaving, and transcending of the self in all contexts and areas of life: personal, social, and environmental, and throughout the lifespan.

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) Certification
In addition, I plan on obtaining my certification in Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TSY) through the Trauma Center's 2018-2019 program. TSY is recognized as an evidence-based adjunct treatment to more traditional therapies (i.e. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) for complex, developmental, or chronic trauma shown to resist traditional PTSD treatments alone by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the United States.

Integrated Domestic Violence & Substance Abuse Treatment
Domestic violence and substance abuse issues often co-occur, whereas the latest research also suggests a dire need for DV programs to provide substance abuse intervention and support as an integrated component of the services provided to DV victims, survivors, and their families. Therefore, I also plan on becoming a certified Women for Sobriety mutual help group facilitator in the next coming months.
No Women for Sobriety (WFS) mutual help groups is currently offered in the Winston-Salem area. Therefore, my plan after starting a WFS support group, free of charge, is to do so for 2 to 3 years, or until I turn the group over to a woman, who will have achieved sobriety for at least 12 months, received her WFS training and certification, and is ready to take the group over.
